So . . . the health of our children is once again in the hands of our George to the W to the Bush. awesome. Yesterday, congress passed a law to eliminate phthalates from children's toys and now it is sitting on the president's desk waiting to be signed. My little liberal optimistic heart is beating rapidly because I want to believe he will do the right thing. I want to believe that this time corporate polluters don't have more power than you or me. Please please Mr. President . . just sign the damn thing.
Here is a Washington Post article about it.
holla!

This is very exciting news! Thank you so much for the comment you left on my blog. I just called the White House in support of the bill and will encourage others to do so as well.
Thanks again,
Nina

I sent this post out to my email list asking people to call the White House and I got this really sad reply from one person. She replied with:
"Are you kidding? Asking bush to not veto something, or conversely, to sign something, is like talking to a rock. Repeated past trying on other important issues, mainly stem cells, shows it's completely futile and a waste of my time. I would do what you ask if I thought it had a minuscule change of helping."
Seriously, I think this might be one of the saddest things I've ever read. To think that people in our country are so beaten down by what has happened over the past 8 years is simply . . depressing. How can we get to a place in our lives where a phone call feels like such a waste of our time that we would rather spend those precious moments emailing the person asking you to make it with a statement of complete and utter hopelessness.
Wow. Is there really were we are as a country?
